I have a ASUS EEE PC 1001PX. I want to thank you, even though this method didn't fully work for me it got me on the right track. The main problem is that my SATA driver does not seem to be included in the DriverPack for Mass Storage Devices. I used the info which is very similiar to yours at http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Operating-systems-and-software/SATA-drivers-for-XP-solution-on-0x0000007B-BSOD/m-p/114120 . I used Section B.) Intel SATA drivers For models with NM10 chipset. This system came with Windows 7 Starter pre installed and I wanted to dual boot with Windows XP so I used the info at http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/8057-dual-boot-installation-windows-7-xp.html

Unfortunitly this method will not work for a Eee PC 901 with the 12GB SSD. I had to use the following method to get XP Pro loaded. http://www.eeeguides.com/2007/11/installing-windows-xp-from-usb-thumb.html
