When I found out Fight for the Future needed help with their campaign against a new bill called PROTECT-IP, I had to take a little time away from Everything is a Remix Part 4 and produce the video above. PROTECT-IP is the latest piece of legislation aiming to chip away at your online rights in the name of protecting the entertainment industry’s business model. It’s legislation that won’t work, will give us yet more lawsuits, and will make the net worse.
Whether you lean right and hate business regulation, lean left and hate censorship, or lean neither way but hate useless legislation, PROTECT-IP is a bill everyone should oppose. I encourage you to head over to Fight For the Future and contact congress.

Everyone should watch the episode of Frontline: Inside the Meltdown that aired Feb 17, 2009. It gives a great chronological of what lead up to our current economic crisis. What really gets me, is how there were certain people (think Ron Paul) saying that this event would happen back in 2007 or earlier, yet they are and were ridiculed for sounding the warnings about an imminent disaster. Hindsight may be 20/20 as the old saying goes, but it does not make any difference if you don’t learn from the experience.
We will continue to see the same problems over the next few years, only worse. As I write this, the DOW sits at 7495(!!!) and people continue to lose their jobs, homes, and savings. Yesterday our new President Obama has signed into law another bailout bill, and by the market’s reactions, it is probably not going to help. Many of the same people who’ve gotten us into this mess in the first place are still in positions of power in both government and private industry. The fools in the US Government continue to give $BILLIONS$ (In reality it’s now in the $$TRILLIONS$$) to their old pals in the private sector that caused this mess through greed and corruption. Now millions of American tax payers for generations to come will suffer the consequences, while these greedy bastards continue to live the good life.
There are many people who feel they have the solution to our problems. Truth is, nobody knows what the best fix will be, but I can tell you printing money and giving it away to the same people who fucked us in the first place, is not the solution. Harder times are on the horizon.
Please enjoy the episode of PBS’ Frontline: Inside the Meltdown. Encourage others to see and understand how this mess has happened, and continue to educate those close to you.
Today the Supreme Court of the United States of America issued a judgment that says the Second Amendment is indeed an individual right. I know the 2nd amendment is a hot-button topic for many and widely debated, but today the Supreme Court has smacked down the argument that the 2nd Amendment is not an individual right to own a gun. For the first time since the 2nd Amendment was ratified in 1791 the courts have acknowledged that it is indeed an individual right. Let this be a lesson to everyone: The Bill of Rights are INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS. Here are some videos from various media outlets about today’s court decision:
Politics. It seems that most Americans don’t care enough to be informed about what is going on in the political landscape. They would rather bury their heads in the sand like an ostrich than understand what is happening in the United States of America. Maybe its because its easy to be apathetic and ignorant. The path of least resistance appears to be the most popular choice when it comes to political sentiment this the USA. Most people do not know the names of more than 3 people running for President in 2008, if that many. Even fewer still know what the individuals stand for. And even fewer than that know what the role of the federal government truly is or should be. The Constitution? Whats that? Doesn’t one of the amendments give me the right to be an ignorant moron? (*sarcasm*) Yeah, thats right. You’ll be first against the wall when the revolution comes.

When I see stories about our government sanctioning torture, spying on Americans, murdering innocent Iraqis, warmongering, hiring mercenaries to fight our wars, cronyism and turning America into a police state, I get really pissed off and nervous. What pisses me off most is that the average American doesn’t know or care about any of these issues, at least not enough to try to change things. They toss up their hands and say “What can I do?”.
I’ll tell you what you can do. Start talking about these issues with anybody who isn’t aware. Start voting for principled politicians (are there any?). Get involved with non-profits and local politics. Stop making excuses for being ignorant. The reason all of this is allowed to happen, is because the majority of people allow it to happen. Those in power COUNT on your apathy and ignorance to further their plans for control of the populace.
I was raised to believe that America was “the land of the free”. A place where different people can come together in a common belief of freedom and liberty. You don’t mess with someone and they cant mess with you. Live and let live. That is not the America that I see today. Through the politics of fear we have allowed the government to erode our civil liberties, invade our privacy and label whole groups of people as ‘the enemy’. All under the guise of “preserving the American way”. I would like to remind everyone of a famous quote by Benjamin Franklin: “Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.” I think Keith Olbermann did a great job explaining the path America is headed down in the video below.
